Hockey: Acomb Ladies I defeat unbeaten hosts Harrogate

DEFIANT Acomb Hockey Club Ladies I prevailed in a five-goal thriller to defeat unbeaten hosts Harrogate in Yorkshire division three.

The home side swarmed into a two-goal lead through a penalty corner and a lapse in defence.

But just before half-time Wendy Watson forced home a deserved reply.

Then, seconds into the second half, Watson struck her second from a narrow angle.

Now, with Georgi Woods running over every blade of astroturf and Jane Elsworth and Paula Ridge dominant in midfield, the Tangerines were rampant.

Several penalty corners failed to reap any reward until Hannah Yoward swept home at the near post to put the visitors ahead for the first time in the game.

The pace of Jenna Allinson, Vicky Wrigley, skipper Kerry Wood, scorer Watson and her daughter Emily, could not be contained, though Acomb had to rely on a fine save late on by ’keeper Gemma Hall to stash away the three valuable points.
