Title chasing Aviva and Pocklington match each other stride for stride

THERE was no change at the top of York Minster Engineering Football League division one as the top two sides both recorded 3-1 victories.

Leaders Aviva hit three first-half goals through Warren Lowe, from the spot, Neil Richardson and Tom Shirley in their home win over with Hemingbrough. Luke Zacharenko snatched a late consolation goal for the visitors.

Second-placed Pocklington trailed to a James Gilbertson goal at Haxby, but hit three goals in ten minutes late in the game to win 3-1.

St Clement’s lost ground on the leading duo as they drew 3-3 at Total Sports despite trailing 3-0 well into the second period.

After a goalless first half Dan Horsley, Ben Brannigan, with a penalty, and Dan Palmer fired the hosts into a three-goal lead before Saints rallied with late goals from Danny Adams, Kenny Sharman and Bobby Clapham.

Malton & Norton kept in touch with the leading sides as they chalked up an 18th game without defeat, winning 3-2 at Wilberfoss despite trailing twice.

Dave Burrows’ opener was cancelled out by Chris Hodgson, then Sam Hall equalised for the Ryedale side after Mark Hughes had put Foss in front again.

Marcus Godsell struck for the third game on the bounce to confirm the win.

White Horse pushed their unbeaten home run to 12 games as they beat Amotherby 3-2. John Langrick, John Marshall and Jake Longstaff were on target for the Church Fenton side, with Matty Bean and Matty Webster replying.
