York RUFC lose out at Driffield

YORK RUFC paid the price for a poor first-half performance as they crashed 38-17 at Driffield in Yorkshire One.

The Clifton Parkers trailed 31-0 at the break and were heading for a major humiliation as Driffield had already secured a bonus point with four tries.

York fly-half John Dawes missed a second-minute penalty from 35 yards, but after that it was Driffield all the way.

The half-time team talk must have resonated with the York players because the second half produced a different performance.

The target of winning the period was achieved, but the overall deficit proved too great.

It did not start well as they knocked on near their own 22-metre line and Driffield scored a converted try to lead 38-0.

However, York responded with tries by Mark Benson and York City Knights convert George Elliott, both converted Dawes, who also helped himself to a drop goal.

Meanwhile, York RI lost 61-5 at Old Rishworthians in Yorkshire Three.
