Heworth ARLC determined to compete
11:01am Thursday 11th October 2012 in Sport
THE formbook suggests Heworth ARLC are in for a hiding on Saturday – but club spokesman Ken Sykes is hopeful of a more even affair at Elmpark Way.
The Villagers, who picked up their first point of term last month but are still winless since October 2010, host National Conference League division two runaway leaders East Leeds, a side who have won 21 of their 23 games this season.
East Leeds have scored 764 points in that time, while Heworth have let in 930, averaging 42 per game. The reverse fixture ended 52-6.
Odds on an away win are so low as to be negligible, but ahead of their penultimate match of the league campaign, Sykes said: “I think we’re up for it. We want to finish in the best way we possibly can. They are obviously the best team in the division and we got hammered at their place. But we played badly that day and we’ve been playing better recently.
“It’s going to be tough but we’re optimistic we can give them a good game and at least compete.”
