City of York Hockey Club Ladies lose out at Whitley Bay

A STRONG start was frittered away by City of York Hockey Club Ladies I, who ended up losing 3-1 at Whitley Bay in the North League premier division.

Early chances were wasted by the visitors, including a missed penalty flick and then having a goal disallowed.

Against the run of play, a run from midfield saw the hosts take the lead.

York defended tirelessly to prevent the score increasing, but soon after they were reduced to ten, Whitley doubled their advantage.

A bolder York approach in the second half yielded several short corners, one of which was converted by Laura Horne at the back post.

However, the action grew steadily scrappy and it was Whitley Bay who struck to ensure York returned empty-handed.

There were no such problems for City of York Ladies II. After negotiating a goalless first half at home to Wakefield, they took command with a fluent display for a 3-0 Yorkshire League premier division win.

An early strike from Emma Hessay set the tone and, soon after, strong work from Annabel Lee down the left opened the way for a Vicky Skilton goal.

City wrapped up the win with a neat strike from ace performer Paula Clough.

Acomb HC Ladies 1 beat Horsforth 5-1 in Yorkshire division three.
