York fly-half Ben Johnson scores his side’s opening try against Wath York fly-half Ben Johnson scores his side’s opening try against Wath

SAM POTRYKUS was sent off as York RUFC crashed 16-13 at home to Wath upon Dearne in Yorkshire One.

York took the lead at Clifton Park thanks to a Ben Johnson penalty on eight minutes – but crucially that proved to be his only kicking success.

Wath had a man sent to the sin-bin, but York were unable to maintain their dominance and the visitors scored a converted try.

On 32 minutes, Wath kicked a penalty and Tom Boyle was sin-binned as York’s frustration grew.

Wath bagged another penalty early in the second half to lead 13-3 and two minutes after Boyle returned Potrykus was sent off for a swinging arm.

A further penalty gave Wath a 16-3 lead before York cut loose and a superb passage of play ended with Johnson touching down.

Wath had another player sin-binned and Billy Cakaunitabua crossed for York, but they were unable to force another score.
