Barry Rankin
Acomb ‘A’ inflicted more misery on Malton ‘A’ as they trounced the champions 6-1 to go top of the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League.
Nick Marchant, Jeff Brown, Trevor Ventress, Richard Lillie (34 break), Gary Robinson and Phil Carlton won the first six games before Darren Pawson prevented a whitewash.
Heworth ‘B’ dropped to second place after losing 4-3 to their ‘A’ team, who hold on to third spot.
The teams shared the first four frames, with Jason Milner and Gary Douglas winning for the ‘A’ team against replies by Roland Cox and Darren Colledge.
Keith Watkinson moved the ‘B’ team ahead, but James Kilmartin levelled and Steve Burdett decided the match.
Fulford ‘A’ are up two places to fourth after defeating Bootham ‘B’ 4-3.
Mike Bailley, Tim Lister (40 break), James Lee and Sam Wass won the match before Bootham replied through Matt Smith, Paul Mahoney and Lionel Barnes.
Acomb ‘B’ went down 4-3 to Bootham ‘A’ after losing a thrilling final frame in a match that included five black ball results.
Mark Darley, with a fluked win on the black, and Tim Fillingham (23 break) gave Bootham a start but John Ashwell won the next when John Darley went in off the black and Nick Goodacre levelled on the black.
Rob Barron’s black ball win moved Bootham ahead, only for Chris Nicholson to level again.
Andy Stone went 70-16 up on Barry Rankin (23 break), but Rankin battled back to 87-87 to force a respotted black.
Rankin potted a difficult black to snatch the match for Bootham.
Lister leads the Pasema Paving Highest Break competition with a run of 54.
Only two players still boast 100 per cent records in the Worthington Player of the Year contest after four rounds of matches.
Colledge and Gary Robinson have each played and won four games.
Cox and Smith have played three and won three.
Meanwhile, Bootham opened the season with a 5-2 win over Fulford in the York Conservative Clubs’ Slater Cup Snooker Pairs League – but it could easily have been a 4-3 defeat.
Jamie Robinson and Matt Dawson gave them a 78-17 start and Bootham took the next two frames with black ball wins.
M Taylor and P Cooke stopped the run, and C Simpson and D Martin added a second for Fulford, only for Colin Sanderson and Pete Mattison to decide the match for Bootham.
Defending champions Heworth showed their intent with a 6-1 demolition of Acomb, helped by two black ball results.
B and D Hough had a comfortable first-frame success for Acomb, but Heworth levelled with a two-point win by D Beattie and R Paylor.
Heworth then took the next three frames.
N Hodgson and J Faircliffe stole the last game on the black after George Rawling had sunk brown, blue and pink but narrowly missed clinching the frame on the black.
The aggregate point made it 6-1.
