Brilliant singles success sends Europe to a brilliant victory

AN eight-foot putt struck by Germany’s Martin Kaymer ensured the European team retained the Ryder Cup at the expense of their American hosts.

The European team went into the last day trailing 10-6 to the Americans ahead of the dozen singles matches.

But in a quite glorious Sunday comeback they stunned the home Medinah crowd in Chicago by reaching the magic total of 14 points, one ahead of the Americans, with still one match to play between Francesco Molinari and Tiger Woods.
