Crewe grit call – York City manager Gary Mills

City boss Gary Mills has high hopes
YORK City manager Gary Mills has cited the example of last season’s League Two play-off winners Crewe for anybody concerned by his team’s current position in the table.
The Minstermen lie 15th going into this afternoon’s away match with Aldershot eight games into the 2012/13 campaign.
But Mills has reiterated that the season is still in its infancy and highlighted how Crewe recovered from losing their first four games last term before finishing seventh in the standings to secure the division’s final play-off spot.
The Railwaymen went on to beat Cheltenham at Wembley to win promotion to League One and Mills, whose team have been without a victory from their last four matches, is in no mood to panic as his team play their final game of September.
He said: “We have to get back on the winning trail but you can look at the last few results in two ways.
“We’ve only lost once since the opening day of the season and I’m going to look at what Crewe finished up with last season before they won the play-offs.
“We have started reasonably well and I think our performances have justified more points.
“We’ve not scraped any of those points by being lucky and I believe we should have had more.”
Crewe ended last season with 72 points by winning 20, drawing 12 and losing 14 of their 46 matches.
The Minstermen have won two, lost two and drawn four of their first eight games back in the Football League.
Meanwhile, out-of-favour striker Liam Henderson has been loaned out to Blue Square Bet North outfit Gainsborough Trinity and was in line to make his debut at home to Corby this afternoon.

In my opinion our priority for this season is all about maintaining our league status and not dropping back into the conference.
If we achieve that we should regard it as a successful season, anything else is a bonus.

sam the keeper wrote:I agree, at the beginning of the season, I did think we'd go straight up, and hope we still do, but there are alot of good sides in this division so a top half finish would be a good season, promotion would be fantastic.
Its good that Gary is talking up our chances however if the season were to finish now I for one would be happy with our league position. In my opinion our priority for this season is all about maintaining our league status and not dropping back into the conference.
