Tennis: Jill McCreedy and Jill Rounce toast their IT Sports triumph

Holders Jill McCreedy and Jill Rounce started like great champions when long rallies produced winners against defiant opponents Wendy Cook and Pauline Craddock to win the IT Sports Tennis tournament 7-2.

Runners-up in the round-robin format proved to be Jane Pemberton and Liz Boville, whose first round victims were the experienced Castlegarth pairing of Helen Robinson and Sue Perkins. Pemberton and Boville prevailed 5-4.

The Beryl Bean over-55s competition, again on a round-robin basis, provided some high-class matches.

Eventual winners Ros Latham and the experienced Rosie Cantrell included an 8-1 win over Dinah Burke and Jenny Walker.

Another highlight was Barbara Plummer and Liz Stacey producing their best tennis in the second round to see off the Butre-Walker pairing 5-4.

Linda Irving and Pam Campbell, winners in 2009, had a great start, winning 7-2 but ended just on the wrong side after losing 6-3 to Latham and Cantrell and then perishing 7-2 to Burke and Walker.

Beryl Bean presented her Rose Bowl trophy to Latham and Cantrell.

The runners-up on level games with Robinson and Perkins were Burke and Walker who won a close duel against the former 5-4.
