Hockey: York Ladies valiant but in vain

CITY of York Ladies first XI battled in vain as they started their North Hockey League division one term with a 2-1 loss at Leeds University.

The hosts took York by surprise with a rapid opener and it needed a half-time re-shuffle to get York back into contention.

However, Leeds added a second before the visitors countered with a short corner struck neatly into the net by Annabel Lee.

Inspired by star performer Paula Clough in midfield, they applied pressure but could not find a leveller.

The information in the article above is incorrect. The City of York Ladies 1st team play in the North Hockey League Premier Division after promotion last season. Please can this be corrected for next time.
