Time to get going insists Pickering Town boss

Time to get going insists Pikes boss Pickering Town manager Jimmy Reid has stressed the need for his side to start picking up a few points after they have “not really got going” so far this season, writes Alex Finnis.

Pickering beat student Team Northumbria 3-1 in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase last weekend but currently sit 18th in the Northern Counties East League premier division.

They host 14th-placed Hall Road Rangers tomorrow in a game Reid describes as “big for both clubs”.

He said: “They’re three points above us and have had a similar start. We’ve both been huffing and puffing for periods this season.

“We had a good victory last week against a team in a higher division than us, now we need to start picking up a few more points in the league.”

Late goals from Liam Salt and substitute Tom Fenwick sealed the win for Reid’s side in the FA Vase, and Fenwick will lead the line against Hall Road with Salt and Stevie Baxter unavailable.

“Hopefully he can transfer his form as a substitute,” said Reid. “He’s come off the bench and scored four times this season. He’s a good young player and I’ve got a lot of belief in him.”

Elsewhere in the top tier, high-flying Scarborough Athletic go to Nostell Miners Welfare, while in division one 21st-placed Selby Town travel to Worsborough Bridge.

Harrogate Railway entertain Cammel Laird in the Evo-Stik League division one north.
