Father and son win York Vale Cricket League trophies

THE Baldock family will be going home with an armful of cricket silverware on Saturday night.

Fulfordgate’s Alan Baldock has landed the Les Kirby Trophy for taking the most wickets in the HPH York Vale Cricket League this summer.

He claimed 29 wickets in a rain-hit season while his son, Dave, won the second division bowling average trophy with 23 wickets at an average of 9.09.

No wonder Fulfordgate won their divisional title and will be playing in the top-flight next season.

The trophies will be handed out at the league’s annual dinner at the Royal York Hotel on Saturday. The dinner, for which about 200 tickets have been sold, is being attended by the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Keith Hyman .

The league’s leading run-maker was Greg Sykes, of division three champions Heworth . His 575 league runs came at an average of 69.63 which secured him the division’s batting award.

The Drax Young Player of the Year award winner, Scothern Construction Club of the Year awards and entrants into the league’s new Hall of Fame will be unveiled on the night The MC for the evening will be Radio York presenter Adam Tomlinson, who also plays for Thorp Arch & Boston Spa.
