McCormack blow for Leeds United
10:02am Monday 17th September 2012 in Sport
LEEDS United suffered a double blow in the npower Championship as Ross McCormack went off injured after three minutes and they lost 2-1 at Cardiff City.
Former Bluebirds striker McCormack twisted his ankle following a challenge by Jordon Mutch and was carried off on a stretcher.
After a goalless first half Craig Bellamy and Peter Whittingham netted for Cardiff after the break.
Rodolph Austin’s free-kick for Leeds halved the deficit to set up a tense finish, but Cardiff hung on to jump into fifth place in the table.
Leeds boss Neil Warnock said: “I thought we deserved a point. But to lose Ross McCormack after three minutes was hard, he’s our only Craig Bellamy.
“Ross has twisted his ankle quite severely. I don’t think there is any break, but we can’t tell yet because of the swelling. I’d imagine he’ll be out for a few weeks.
“It was a fantastic goal by Bellamy, but we were very disappointed with the free-kick that was given. Maynard is good at it. Michael Tonge pulled out of the tackle and he’s gone down. The referee has given the free-kick. We should have had the wall better and were naïve.”
