Simon Dyson wired up for Ryder Cup roving radio role
YORK’S club class golfer Simon Dyson has bagged a close-up gig at the Ryder Cup.
Though Dyson’s injury and illness-stricken year denied him the chance to press his claims for inclusion in the European team to take on America in the Ryder Cup, he will be at the heart of the biennial battle.
The world number 49, who is taking a break from the European Tour to go on holiday, has landed a presenting job as part of BBC Five Live’s coverage of the Ryder Cup from September 27 to 30.
Dyson will be among a strong Beeb radio team, fronted by Olympics anchor-man John Inverdale, at the Medinah Country Club in Illinois.
But the deal was only sealed if Dyson could catch a flight back from the United States on the Sunday night of the final day so he can prepare for his return to European Tour duty at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland starting on October 4.
