RYEDALE Judo Club are tapping into a rise in interest in the wake of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The club have been offering taster days under the guidance of head junior coach Derek Seller, 3rd Dan, during the summer in a bid to attract youngsters to the sport.
Former judo international, Michael Leng, 5th Dan, the club chairman, also gave a talk after returning from his Gamesmaker duties at the Olympics.
A total of 20 newcomers took part and several are now joining in regular junior sessions at the Northern Ryedale Leisure Centre, in Pickering, on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 7.30pm.
Increased demand has prompted the club to start a new ten-week adult beginners course on Wednesdays from 8.30pm, starting on September 19.
Normal graded senior sessions, including youngsters aged 14 and over, will continue on Wednesday and Friday evenings at 8.30pm.
Further information is available by phoning Leng on 01723 850464 or 07966 970499.
