Simon Dyson to rest ahead of Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

YORK’S king of clubs Simon Dyson is to stow away his golf bag for a break before returning to the scene of his biggest ever success.

Dyson has opted out of the European Tour’s next event, the Italian Open which opens tomorrow, to start a three-week holiday with wife Lyndsey and young daughter Isabella Rose.

With the Ryder Cup being played next week it’s the ideal time for Dyson to enjoy a few days in the sun before launching a flat-out bid for a final flourish to a year chequered by illness and injury.

The world-ranked number 49’s return is scheduled for October 4 in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, a crown he captured at the spiritual home of the game at St Andrews in Scotland in 2009.
