Athletics: Gold for York's Alice Linaker

CITY of York Athletics Club trio Alice Linaker, Lucy Hadaway and Rachael White shone in the Jarrow Open Pentathlon.

Linaker, who is ranked fifth in the country, took gold in the under-13s section with a total of 2,175 points after personal best performances in the long jump – a leap of 4.35 metres – and the shot put, with a throw of 6.74 metres.

Fellow U13s athlete Hadaway led up to the final event, the 800 metres, but ended up in fourth place overall.

Hadaway took solace from two personal bests – 1.33 metres in the high jump and 6.81 metres in the shot for a score of 1,914 points.

White won bronze in the U15s category with personal bests in long jump (4.51m) and shot (6.09m) for a 1.911-point total.
