Tennis: York’s in-form aces make hay

YORK Tennis Club went top of Yorkshire Men’s League division two with an 8-1 home win over rivals Roundhay.

Angus Smith and Andrew Cooke won three rubbers for York, bidding to return to division one after relegation last season.

Their return was matched by Paul Blackett and Sam Davies, while Arron Tate and Matt Robinson won two.

Also victorious were York TC’s women’s team who toppled Leeds side Chapel Allerton 6-3 in division one of the Yorkshire League .

First pair Wendy Stirke and Louise Lister won three rubbers for the hosts at Clifton Park, while Louise Marshman and Sacha Taylor won two, and Jill Rounce and Karen Retief one.
