Nine gold medals for City of York Athletics Club

CITY of York Athletics Club claimed nine gold medals at the West Yorkshire Track and Field Championships.

A squad of ten City of York members returned with a haul of 19 medals from the event in Cleckheaton.

Thomas Flatters won gold in three under-13 events, winning the 80-metre sprint, the long jump and the shot, with a championship best of 11.32m.

Fellow U13s athlete Alex Botterill scooped silvers in the 80m sprint and the 800m, in a championship-best time of two minutes 29 seconds.

Alice Linakerclaimed gold in the 80m sprint with a personal best time of 11.46 seconds, while another personal best of two minutes and 35.92 seconds earned her a silver in the 800m.

U11 Harry Flatters was a silver medallist in the 75m sprint and won bronze in the shot with a personal best throw of 6.51m.

Andrew Hanson was the winner of the 75m sprint, clocking a personal best of 11.24 seconds.

In the U15 section, Rachael White took gold in the long jump with a personal best leap of 4.47m, while she also won a bronze medal in the high jump.

Gold was the colour for Rowan Palmer after a high jump effort of 1.50m.

Charlotte Stamp won three silvers in the 100m sprint, 200m – in a personal best of 28.68 seconds – as well as the long jump.

U17 runner Kate Harris won silver in the 800m, while senior women and vet athlete Maria Williams won gold in the javelin and silver in the discus.
