Simon Dyson’s KLM Open defence fades in Holland

CONSISTENCY eluded North Yorkshire golfer Simon Dyson as his KLM Open title defence faded at the weekend in Hilversum.

The 34-year-old, three times Dutch champion, finished in a tie for 46th place after rounds of 74 and 70 followed his promising opening rounds of 70 and 66.

Struggling with a wrist injury, the Malton & Norton Golf Club star carded five birdies and five bogeys in an up and down closing round.

Dyson had tumbled 40 places down the leaderboard on Saturday after a four over round of 74, wiping out the good work of his 66 the previous day.

Bogeys at the first and ninth holes bookended seven birdies on the front nine, and he then dropped shots at the 11th, 14th and 17th, with a lone birdie two coming at the 13th.

Peter Hansen won the tournament by two shots on 14 under par.
