ON-LOAN teenage Leeds United left-back Charlie Taylor is looking like a seasoned professional, according to York City boss Gary Mills.

Mills felt Taylor, 18, was the best player on the pitch in Tuesday night’s 1-0 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy victory at Rotherham United and is calling on him to reproduce that form during the rest of his one-month stay from Elland Road.

Negotiations have not yet taken place between Mills and the Championship outfit to extend the England under-19 international’s loan spell but the City boss has been impressed with what he has seen so far, saying: “I’m happy with him and Leeds are pleased with the arrangement as well.

“We won’t get carried away after a couple of games and Charlie has got to continue playing at the same level but, at Rotherham, with his composure and positional play, he looked like somebody who had played a couple of hundred league games rather than an 18-year-old.

“There’s been no talk of extending his loan yet and we’re just pleased he’s with us playing like he is.”

Ahead of this afternoon’s home match with Chesterfield (3pm), Mills also admitted that teams may now come to Bootham Crescent and defend in numbers following last weekend’s 3-1 triumph over Oxford and a run of three straight wins.

The City boss added: “Time will tell whether teams come to Bootham Crescent a little wary of us. We did not see that with Oxford though.

“They came here, passed the ball well and wanted to attack. Some teams might be different but others won’t.

“I think most people will have left the Oxford game feeling they had seen a good game of football and I hope there will be more like that because I want to see matches played the right way.”
