Defending champion Simon Dyson surges up KLM Open leaderboard

A FOUR under par round of 66 fired reigning champion Simon Dyson into top ten contention at the KLM Open in Holland.

The 34-year-old York golfer started on the tenth at Hilversumsche and bagged four birdies on the back nine – at the 12th, 13th, 17th and 18th.

A lone bogey on the first hole was followed by six pars before the Malton & Norton Golf Club ace picked up another shot at the par four eighth hole, sinking a long-range putt.

After completing his round as one of the earlier starters, Dyson was in a tie for seventh place on four under for the tournament after an opening round of 70.

He gradually slipped down the leaderboard and is seven shots shy of leader Graeme Storm ahead of round three today.
