Match preview: York City v Chesterfield

Benenden Healthcare Society - Proud sponsor of York City FC

HIGHLY-RATED Chesterfield goalkeeper Tommy Lee will miss his team’s League Two clash with York City tomorrow.

Former Manchester United trainee Lee, pictured, who has been named supporters’ Player of the Year for the last three seasons at Chesterfield, suffered shoulder ligament damage during the Spireites’ 2-1 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy victory over Oldham on Tuesday night and has been ruled out for six to eight weeks.

Richard O’Donnell will now start between the sticks at a Bootham Crescent ground where he spent a couple of weeks on work experience from Sheffield Wednesday back in 2007.

Back then, former City boss Billy McEwan drafted him in as cover for Tom Evans but O’Donnell did not make a senior appearance after being rapidly recalled due to injury problems at Hillsborough, where he remained until this summer.

O’Donnell replaced Lee in midweek but will be making his full debut for tomorrow’s visitors.

Otherwise, midfielder Craig Westcarr is available again after missing the Oldham win due to suspension but full-back Nathan Smith remains sidelined by an ankle problem.

With three draws and a defeat, Chesterfield will arrive in North Yorkshire as one of four teams in the division yet to register a league win this term – a record shared with the bottom three teams Dagenham & Redbridge, Bristol Rovers and Barnet.

The Derbyshire side are, however, unbeaten during caretaker-manager Tommy Wright’s first two games in charge.

Wright, formerly assistant to his sacked predecessor John Sheridan, followed up an encouraging 1-1 draw at early pacesetters Gillingham with a successful start to the Spireites’ defence of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

The club have revealed there have been more than 60 applications for the managerial post but want to see how Wright and his number two, Mark Crossley, fare first.

Team (probable): O’Donnell, Forbes, Trotman, Hird, Ridehalgh, Talbot, Togwell, Westcarr, Whittaker, Richards, Boden.

Ok, it's that time of the week again - score and crowd predictions!

I'll go for a 3-2 City win in front of 4050.

Also, who would you prefer to get in round 2 of the JPT?

I think Sheff. Utd. away would be a fun day out.

I was interested to read the stats above - (September 8th 1973) Blackburn Rovers 4 York City 0. I was there that day, we played really well for about 10/15 minutes and then Blackburn just tore us to pieces. No repeat performance tomorrow against Chesterfield please. I feel confident that we will beat them, but we must take our chances and keep it tight at the back. I wouldnt be surprised if McReady is brought in to replace Paddy.

Gutted I missed last week so really looking forward to this.

I think City will win 2 nil (Walker, Blair) in front of 4,476 (734 away). Fully expect Coulson in midfield, McCready to feature later.

We will be sent to the lovely NE city of Coventry in the cup.

Yes we can, and as I have a Coventry supporting mate who always bangs on about the good old days, and we haven't played them (I believe) since 1960 (?) I'd like that.

Tomorrow? 2-0, crowd 3,900

4-1 to City as we tear them apart on a beautiful pitch on a beautiful day. Walker, Coulson 2 and Carlile the scorers. 4618, 812 from Chesterfield Coventry away would be nice as I've never been there

I think we are playing them at a decent time. Paddy out is a bit of a blow leaving us very short of creativity in midfield, given that we need Coulson there with Blair taking his place up front. We are on a bit of a roll so I'm going for a 2-1 win with Chambers and Walker for us. I would hope for 4243 with 721 away fans. Don't mind who we draw in the cup as long as its at home.

The Grinder has given this serious thought. Yes Paddy not playing is a big loss, who will Gary Mills bring in? I suspect Bullock, could be a chance to prove himself. Crowd, i go for 4501 with a 2-1 win to City. Kick towards the Longhurst in the first half, it's a winning formula.
