Eagle for Simon Dyson in KLM Open
11:16am Friday 7th September 2012 in Sport
By Tony Kelly, Deputy sports editor
JUST when he needed it York’s Simon Dyson rattled in an eagle to re-fuel his drive in the KLM Open.
The defending champion – he is one of only three players to have won the Dutch title three times – was struggling near the foot of the leaderboard with one hole to play.
Labouring on two-over par, the world number 48 then produced a scintillating three on the 499-yard par-five 18th at the Hilversumsche course in Holland.
That elevated him from a lowly position below the first 100 players to a healthy tied 46th place ahead of today’s second round as he strives to make history and win his fourth KLM crown and his seventh European Tour title.
Before the welcome eagle, the Malton & Norton GC player had suffered a Noah’s Ark of a round of two by two by two.
A brace of bogeys on the first and third holes were followed by birdies on six and nine before another pair of dropped shots on the 14th and 15th holes.
