York City youngsters concede leveller at the death
10:49am Tuesday 4th September 2012 in Sport
DESPITE a scrappy game, York City maintained their position at the top of the North-East Conference U18s of the Football Youth Alliance after a 1-1 draw at home to Scunthorpe.
Backed by a strong wing, Scunthorpe had York under pressure for most of the first half, but stout defence restricted the visitors to several long-range shots dealt with comfortably by goalkeeper Alex Coates.
In the second half, with the wind behind them, York started much better and passed the ball well.
Shortly after a good Jordan Outerbridge effort was blocked, another drive was hand-balled to result in a penalty which was slotted in by Danny Middleton.
But as the final whistle approached, York were then caught sitting too deep and a Scunthorpe forward drove the ball in through a crowd of players to steal a point.
