Golf: Yorkshire boys win English County Championship

YORKSHIRE ruled again this week, with no small guidance from Sandburn Hall GC head professional and top-rated coach Steve Robinson.

The boys’ team won the English County Championship at Cotswold Hills by beating their closest rivals Staffordshire 7-2.

It was the seventh title triumph for Yorkshire, who are coached by Robinson.

He said: “We have not won this title for some time, so to win it this year is important for the county. It’s a good young team for the future and we’ve got strength in depth.”

The boys’ coach since 1998, it was the fifth time he had steered the team to the national crown matching his feat of coaching Yorkshire Ladies to a nap hand of successes.

Meanwhile, Forest Park GC’s Lisa Dalby won the silver trophy at the York Union of Golf Clubs’ ladies’ championship at Sandburn Hall.

Forest Park’s 27-hole ladies’ championship was captured by Fiona Crossley with a 122 gross score.
