Bowls: A ton-up triple treat marks The Retreat’s big day
10:34am Thursday 30th August 2012 in Sport
The Retreat and their guests from Scarcroft and City Amateurs
A TRIPLE century was celebrated at The Retreat Bowls Club.
The Retreat marked their centenary with a three-way challenge match against city rivals Scarcroft and City Amateurs, two clubs that have also notched up 100 years of bowling.
The afternoon began with a Spider competition, started by Jack Hebblethwaite, president of the York Amateur Bowling Association.
The proceeds from the game will be used to buy a commemorative tree.
The main match was a hard-fought contest narrowly won by the guests.
