York Tennis Club men’s team on the up

YORK Tennis Club men’s team maintained their hopes of promotion when they crushed Doncaster’s Harworth and Bircotes 8-1 in division two of the Yorkshire League at Clifton Park.

Angus Smith and Andrew Cooke won three rubbers for York, as did Ian McAuley and Arran Tate, while Tom Walker and Angus Bradshaw won two.

York have three matches left, the crucial one being at home to Roundhay on September 9.

Captain Smith said: “We came down last season with Roundhay and if we can win this one we must have a good chance of going back up.”
