Frankie Dettori steals Mo Farah’s ‘Mobot’ celebration
A JOYFUL Frankie Dettori ticked one of the few remaining boxes on his racing CV after finally winning the Betfred Ebor at York Racecourse.
The charismatic Italian has enjoyed top class racing success all over the world but Knavesmire’s signature race had always eluded him, until Willing Foe (12-1) prevailed in a fierce duel at the climax of the historic mile-and-threequarter contest.
Dettori managed to hold off Royal Diamond by a neck but then had to sweat while a stewards’ inquiry ruled on whether he had interfered with the second placed horse.
Dettori said: “There are three big handicaps you want to win, the Cambridgeshire, Cesarewitch and the Ebor.
“I haven’t got many boxes left to tick and that was one of them so it’s great. It’s one of our greatest and oldest handicaps and I’m happy I’ve conquered it.”
