Simon Dyson plots a flier at Gleneagles
11:16am Wednesday 22nd August 2012 in Sport
YORK’S leading clubs-man Simon Dyson will not be short of followers on his return to European Golf Tour duty tomorrow.
That’s when the world number 46 opens his challenge in the Johnnie Walker Championship at the world-renowned Gleneagles course.
And besides being partnered by Italy’s Ryder Cup player Francesco Molinari, Dyson will also be accompanied for the first two rounds by one of Scotland’s favourite sons, Open winner Paul Lawrie.
Whenever he appears in his native Scotland, the holder of the Claret Jug in 1999 is guaranteed a huge following and crammed galleries, so ample attention will be focused on the threesome.
Dyson, meanwhile, will be bidding for a healthy return to form at the Auchterader-based course after his last competitive appearance saw him miss the half-way cut in the final major of the season – the USPGA Championship in Kiawah Island.
The Johnnie Walker is also the last event counting to the final automatic place for the European team for next month’s Ryder Cup showdown against the USA in America.
Dyson’s Ryder Cup drive was unhinged by his five-week absence with a pelvic injury.
