York close in on Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League leaders Harrogate

YORK are only four points behind leaders Harrogate after a profitable weekend in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier Cricket League.

The reigning champions beat Castleford by 113 runs on Saturday and followed up with a 65-run win at home to Rotherham on Sunday.

In Saturday’s win, Nick Kay hit 98 off 114 balls, including nine fours, to lead York to 228-9. Opener Duncan Snell made 56.

Basement side Castleford were skittled for 115, with spinners Dan Woods (3-24) and Tom Pringle (3-19) to the fore. On Sunday, Snell smashed 140 off 174 balls, Oliver Hairs hit 70 off 64 balls and Alex Collins struck an unbeaten 56 as York totalled 293-3.

Rotherham replied with 228-7.

Title rivals Harrogate rolled over Scarborough for 43 en route to a ten-wicket win on Saturday, but their game at home to Sheffield United was abandoned on Sunday.

Heworth teenager Jack Leaning top-scored with 68 as he captained Yorkshire Academy in their six-wicket defeat to Hull on Saturday.
