Judd Trump eyes York repeat in UK Snooker Championship

UK SNOOKER champion Judd Trump reckons he is not far away from recreating the form that brought him title joy at York last year.

Reflecting on his victory at York’s Barbican in December, when he picked up his first major title with a 10-8 victory over Mark Allen, Trump praised the city’s crowds – as the countdown begins in earnest to this year’s tournament, “Winning the UK title last year was definitely one of the best moments of my career so far,” said Trump. “I didn’t play that well in the first few rounds but I produced my best in the final. Mark Allen played the best match he has ever played on TV and pushed me all the way.

“Since then my game has been more consistent but I haven’t produced much of the kind of snooker I was playing in York. I seem to keep winning my first couple of matches easily, and then throwing a match away.

“My all-round game has improved, but my confidence is not as high. I know it’s time now to start pushing for another big title and I know I just need a bit of luck at the right time. The crowds in York last year were fantastic, even from the first frame of every match, people were getting involved.

“There were at least a few hundred people there for every match and it was a really good atmosphere to play in. Overall snooker seems to be on the up and we are getting bigger crowds at most tournaments.

“We need more new players to come through and win tournaments, because a lot of the older players are on their way out. It would be great to see someone like Luca Brecel come from Europe and start winning events. Everyone needs to do their bit and join together to help the game grow so we can have more tournaments and prize money.”
