Fulford and Malton & Norton promoted in Yorkshire Union golf league
The ace brace of clubs returned to the top flight of the Yorkshire Union team championship after victory in the second-team event at Keighley GC.
Fulford topped the tournament with a combined score of 580 after two rounds thanks to the sterling efforts of their quartet of Jamie Miller, George Forder, Damon Coulson and Ross Earnshaw.
Some 15 points adrift for a fifth-placed finish – the top six of the 18-strong second-team championship advance to the first division – Malton & Norton’s return to the premier league was confirmed by the foursome of Chris Halley, Michael Eyre, John Walsh and Richard Brown.
ALLERTHORPE Park GC’s Tony Burton Memorial Trophy was won by Helen Kettlewell.
Her tally of 41 points in the 18-hole full handicap stableford competition was one clear of nearest challenger Andy Walton, with Josh Hill third on 39 points.
The winner of the nearest the pin prize on the eighth hole was Pauline Betteridge for the ladies and Dick Culley for pin.
The winners on the 18th were Carol Simpson and Arnie Nobbs respectively.
The competition, including a very impressive half way house, was generously sponsored by Sheila Burton, widow of the former player in whose memory the tournament is played.
