Yorkshire v Northants - lunch, day 2

Yorkshire have been off colour for the second day running against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road, but have managed to take two wickets to boost their confidence ahead of the rest of today’s play.

Replying to Yorkshire’s 249 in their first innings, Northants have reached 90-2 from 32 overs at lunch with the visitors bowling too full in general.

Stephen Peters and Scotsman Kyle Coetzer (31) shared 66 for the first wicket before off-spinner Azeem Rafiq removed the latter thanks to a smart diving catch by Phil Jaques at backward point in the 24th over.

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid has extracted some turn in the early stages of his spell, which will encourage the visiting dressing room.

But it was Rich Pyrah, suffering from a bout of conjunctivitis, who struck just before lunch when he had the experienced David Sales neatly caught at second slip by Adam Lyth, leaving the score at 89-2.

Peters, who has reached 45, and Alex Wakely will resume this afternoon for the hosts.
