Minstermen heed lessons to thrill Mills

A THRILLED York City boss Gary Mills said his team’s first half performance at Gateshead was the best his side had been “for a long, long time”.
Jamie Reed and trialist Dominic Knowles scored the goals in the opening period as the Minstermen took a 2-0 win away from the International Stadium.
They could have netted more as they dominated a Heed side which had beaten them twice in the Blue Square Bet Premier last season.
And Mills said: “It’s progression and it is learning what I want. For half an hour (in the first half) I thought we were excellent.
“Certainly it’s the best we have been for a long, long time.
“Our work-rate in getting the ball back and producing goal chances and keeping the ball when we got it back was superb.
“As always in pre-season, the game fizzles out a little bit and when you make a lot of changes but, overall, it was excellent.”
