York City defender David McGurk in Crescent action
THE Press are sponsoring David McGurk ’s benefit game against Middlesbrough next month – and we have a fantastic prize to give away.
Long-serving defender McGurk and his York City team-mates will take on npower Championship big boys Middlesbrough at Bootham Crescent on Saturday, August 4.
The Press are delighted to be sponsoring the match against McGurk’s hometown club as we join Minstermen fans in showing our appreciation for the player’s sterling service.
McGurk joined City from Darlington on loan in 2004, signing a permanent deal in 2006 – and the 29-year-old has starred at the heart of the defence ever since.
Stuart Martel, sports editor of The Press, said: “We are delighted to be backing a well-deserved benefit match for a great York City servant.
“Very few players give such long service to one club these days and we hope as many fans as possible will turn out to support David and City in a key friendly match before the start of the League Two campaign.”
As official benefit match sponsors, we have a pair of VIP tickets to give away to the winner of our superb competition.
The winner and a guest will be given hospitality before the match and at half-time, and seats in the Bootham Crescent directors’ box, while also meeting and being photographed with McGurk and the Boro captain at the coin toss before the game.
