Yorkshire struggle as Hampshire clash gets under way
1:37pm Thursday 12th July 2012 in Sport By Chris Parrott
PLAY finally got under way this morning in Yorkshire’s LV= County Championship division two match with Hampshire.
After day one was washed out, the action started on time today in Southampton.
However, by lunch, Yorkshire had slipped to 83-3 at The Ageas Bowl.
Two wickets in as many balls from Kabir Ali did the damage, with York-based Jonny Bairstow falling for a first ball duck after stand-in captain Phil Jaques had been ousted by the former England bowler for 12.
At this stage the Tykes were floundering on 28-3 with Adam Lyth also out for two, before Joe Root and Gary Ballance staged an impressive fight-back in the remainder of the session.
Root had reached 46 by the interval, with Ballance on 17.
