Senior Cricket League: In-form openers excel for Acomb

HUNTERS York & District Senior Cricket League division one leaders Acomb were only able to make steady progress when batting first at Fenner in a game reduced to 46 overs per side.
They were given a solid start by Matt Dickenson (50) and Scott Nicholls (37), who shared an opening stand of 70 before both fell to lbw decisions gained by Ryan Kirk.
He went to to take 3-31 in 9.3 overs as he joined forces with Mike Arundell (2-31) to reduce Acomb to 118-5. At this point, after 36.3 overs, the weather intervened in terminal fashion.
Third-placed Hull Zingari were tumbled out for 119 at Pickering in the 34th over of a reduced 40-over game.
James Berridge (28) and Ali Markham (26) offered token resistance but the star performer was Lorcan Barker who claimed 6-43 in ten overs.
The league’s hardest worked bowler, Dave Greenlay, sent down 17 economical overs to earn 2-44 and take his seasonal wicket count to 28. Pickering’s reply was curtailed almost before it began as a mere two overs were possible before rain.
The game at Bolton Percy was one of only two matches in the top four divisions to be played to a conclusion.
The hosts gained the better of a draw over Harrogate to take 23 points and move up two places.
In a 38-over game, Bolton were bowled out for 121 with four balls to spare. Joe White made 30 but the scourge was Rob Stanworth who claimed 6-56 in 15 overs.
Bolton Percy were then grateful to two bowlers who had identical returns of 3-32.
Danny White took his wickets in ten overs, while Ali Rigby’s came off one less over. Ashley Griffin made 45 and Tom Henry 29, but the visitors were hanging on for a draw at 107-9 when their overs expired.
