York City celebrate in Spain
12:00pm Friday 25th May 2012 in Sport
York City’s players, management, staff and directors in Benidorm
YORK City’s players, management staff and directors have been painting the town red, white and blue during their celebratory trip to Benidorm.
The Spanish escapade, promised by chairman Jason McGill if the team could beat Luton in last Sunday’s Blue Square Bet Premier play-off final, has seen the club’s historic Wembley double toasted in good spirits.
It had not been without the odd hitch prior to take-off, though, with ’keeper Michael Ingham forgetting his passport and another player missing the 4am coach departure from Bootham Crescent.
Fortunately, he was awoken from his slumber at a guest house and, like Ingham, made the flight from Birmingham.
Directors Jason and Rob McGill have also been basking in the sun, along with management staff Gary Mills, Darron Gee, Steve Torpey and kit-man Rob Batty. Notable absentees included James Meredith and Jamal Fyfield, who had already booked breaks in Australia and Mexico respectively.
Lanre Oyebanjo is believed to be sitting exams, while Ben Gibson, Erik Tonne, Liam Henderson and Scott Brown had also made prior arrangements or have family commitments, along with physio Jeff Miller.
Most of the party will fly back to Birmingham tonight although some are planning to carry on their celebrations in Majorca’s holiday resort of Magaluf.
