Tennis: Wigginton hit back to edge Starbeck

Starbeck faced-off against Wigginton across three divisions of the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League.
Starbeck’s first team edged a close match with Wiggy’s top side 8-4 in division two thanks to a captain’s display of 26 game wins from Gary Saunders and partner Paul Evison.
Revenge was sweet in division four as John Long and junior Joe Galloway bagged 24 games in a 9-3 home win for Wigginton 2. The division seven tie saw Wigginton steal the series with a 9-3 success at home to Starbeck 3. Wiggy’s Rob Walker and junior Ben King won all three of their rubbers for 24 games.
Pocklington’s Ed Barker-Wyatt and Tom Walker won three of their four points in an 8-4 reverse at Dunnington in division one.
In division seven, Pock 2 had six wins from nine rubbers at home to Dunnington 3 for a 10-2 win. Pock’s Barry Johnson and Keith Hopkins won 30 games.
Champions Poppleton are back on top of division one.
