York Cricket Club duo have Barnsley in a spin

SPIN duo Dan Woods and Tom Pringle bowled York to a 16-run victory over hosts Barnsley in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier Cricket League.
Captain Woods took 4-56 and Pringle claimed 4-72 as the reigning champions restricted Barnsley to 202-8 from their 55 overs as they attempted to chase down the visitors’ 218-6.
The home side won the toss and put York in to bat and the opening pair of Simon Lambert (14) and Liam McKendry (21) put on 47 for the first wicket.
The middle order then fired as number three Oliver Hairs hit 38 off 36 balls, with three fours and a six, and Alex Collins struck 45 off 77 balls.
However, all-rounder Nick Kay led the way with an unbeaten 57 off only 59 balls, including seven boundaries.
He was assisted in the latter stages by Andrew Tute (13) and wicketkeeper Steve Crossley (9no) as York edged their way to 218.
Barnsley made a superb start to their reply as Jonathan Trower (50) and Simon Widdup (64) put on 101 for the first wicket before Pringle removed them both.
In fact, Pringle wiped out the top four before skipper Woods stepped in to restrict Barnsley’s chase despite Jason Booth’s 28 and an unbeaten 24 from Tom Shaw.
The incomplete win saw York take six points from the match, which leaves them sixth in the table, ten points behind the early pacesetters Harrogate.
