Senior Cricket League: Basement Bolton Percy beat Thirsk
9:01am Monday 14th May 2012 in Sport
Heworth wicket-keeper Mark Lynch takes a ball down the leg side, after Acomb batsman Matt Dale misses a delivery from Richard Bowling
bottom-placed Bolton Percy had a stunning division one victory over Thirsk who were routed for just 50 after Bolton had made 219-4.
Peter Houseman was the star performer for hosting Bolton as he made an unbeaten 44 and then claimed four wickets for a mere two runs in just two overs.
Other batting performances for the hosts were Matt Westwood’s 47, 39 by Jacob Green and an undefeated 36 by Tom Malloch. Houseman’s support with the ball came from Dan White whose 3-29 in 9.5 overs ensured a disappointing day for the Thirsk side.
Pickering’s Dave Greenlay produced a memorable spell of 8-31 in 23.1 overs to skittle hosts Fenner for 105.
Nevertheless, Greenlay, who included ten maidens in his marathon spell, still found himself on the losing side. His side were toppled for just 63.
Pickering’s batsmen fared even worse, reduced to 31-8 by Luke Robinson (4-23) and Luke Laybourne (3-28). Only Colin Frank (18) offered any genuine resistance.
Acomb’s 100 per cent record was ended at Heworth. But they still improved their lead by taking the best of a draw.
Matt Dale hit 58 and Harry Booth 31 as Acomb posted 156-8 in a 38-over match.
Rich Walton took 6-40 but then saw his batsmen underperform in 101-8.
Acomb skipper Simon Browne took a hat-trick spread over two overs in his 5-31.
His first two victims were Wasim Akram and Rich Walton with the final two balls of one over before he dismissed Andrew Simpson with the first delivery of his following over.
