Selby Town’s quest for new manager begins

RELEGATED Selby Town’s woes continued to pile up this week as they lost manager Graham Hodder, who had his resignation accepted by the club.

A calamitous season for the Robins contained a run of form which saw them lose 21 of their last 22 league games, meaning they will be playing their football in the Northern Counties East League first division next season.

The loss of Hodder means six managers have left the club in a little over two seasons and club secretary Thomas Arkley will be hoping for a much brighter season next time out.

Said Arkley: “Hodder brought in some good players in his time here and we are disappointed that it didn’t work out.

“By no means is it Graham’s fault as there are a few problems at the minute and he came into a difficult situation.

“But with the results we were getting and just missing out on wins week in, week out, confidence was draining game by game.”

Arkley revealed that interviews are currently being arranged for a new manager to be in place for next season.

Added the club secretary: “Without a doubt we aim to bounce straight back next season and head for promotion.

“But there is currently some uncertainty within the club and we want to make sure we have a team to be competitive.

“We are all volunteers here with a lot to think about so hopefully we will know where we are in the next couple of weeks.”

Selby fans will be hoping for strong pre-season and a year of consistency both on the pitch and in the Robins’ dug-out as they look to claw back their premier division status at the first attempt.

Very happy to see Selby Town get relegated. You reap what you sow in this world and after the way they went about appointing Dave Heard as their manager, by ruthlessly taking him and a bunch of players from another club without the decency of a phone to the club shows what sort of people are involved with Selby Town.
They almost destroyed another club, all so they could obtain 3 points over a 4 month period during their relegation and it’s great to see Selby Town in such trouble now.
