CROCKED Scott Kerr’s hat-trick of Player of the Year trophies will provide him with some consolation for missing York City’s play-off campaign and FA Trophy final, according to manager Gary Mills.

Kerr, 30, has never played at Wembley and, having suffered knee ligament damage at Luton last month, will be unable to represent the Minstermen on two possible visits to the world-famous stadium next month.

His efforts towards the team’s progress this term, though, were recognised after Saturday’s final fixture in City’s Blue Square Bet Premier programme at home to Forest Green Rovers.

Kerr was presented with the Billy Fenton Clubman of the Year award, along with the Players’ Player of the Year and Harrogate Minstermen Player of the Year trophies.

City chief Mills endorsed the choice of his players and the supporters, saying: “There’s been a few contenders this season but Scott Kerr deserves the awards he got.

“I’m delighted and gutted for him at the same time. We’ve missed him and I want to top the season off for him, as much as anybody else, now.

“He’s been exceptional for us and is a fantastic professional. He’s a winner and I know how much it will hurt him missing the play-offs, a Wembley final and, hopefully, another one.

“But the awards will mean a lot to him. I said before the start of the season at Ebbsfleet that the best individual award you can win as a player is the Supporters’ Player of the Year and he deserves it.”

Other awards went to James Meredith (York City Supporters’ Club Player of the Year), Tom Platt (Youth Team Player of the Year) and Paddy McLaughlin (Community Player of the Year).

On Meredith’s recognition, Mills added: “At the start of the season, he was disappointing and he knows that.

“We had words and he’s grown in strength and got better and better during the back end of the campaign.”
