Tadcaster Albion win ensures top ten placing

TADCASTER Albion are guaranteed a top ten finish in the Northern Counties East League premier division after a 3-1 win at Barton Town Old Boys.

The Brewers have one game remaining, at home to Staveley Miners Welfare on Friday (7.45pm), and they are currently eighth in the table.

Albion trailed to a 24th-minute goal by Barton Town’s Gareth Owen, but Terry Taylor levelled two minutes into the second half.

Chris Kamara nudged the visitors in front five minutes later and his second goal on 74 minutes made the points safe.

Pickering Town’s campaign ended with a 3-1 defeat at Armthorpe Welfare.

Paul Ashton gave the hosts the lead on half-time, but prolific Pikes striker Carl Stewart netted his 24th goal of the season on 63 minutes.

David Buck put Armthorpe back in front on 70 minutes and Henry Sibenge added a third with seven minutes remaining.

Selby Town’s premier division stay ended with a 2-0 defeat at Maltby Main, goals from Rob Branagan and Paul Lavender condemning the Robins to their 32nd defeat of the season.

There was no game for Scarborough Athletic, who finish their season at Staveley on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Harrogate Town staved off relegation from Blue Square Bet North in style with a 5-0 victory at Corby Town on the final day of the season.

Needing a win to be sure of staying up, Town cruised to safety with two goals from Richard Pell and one each from Paul Bolland, Jonny Allan and on-loan York City youngster Tom Platt.
