Yorkshire bowlers toil as Kent reach 85-1 at lunch

YORKSHIRE'S bowlers have failed to impress during the morning session on day two of the county’s LV= County Championship division two clash with Kent.

In reply to the Tykes first innings total of 247 all out, their hosts had reached lunch on 85-1 in Canterbury.

It means they were only 162 runs behind.

On another breezy day, Ajmal Shahzad was the only member of the Yorkshire attack to strike, when he removed Scott Newman for 31 thanks to a sharp catch from York-based Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps.

At the interval, Sam Northeast had reached 20 not out, with Ben Harmison on 21.

Meanwhile, Bairstow and Joe Root have been included in the England Lions squad for their match with West Indies at Northampton next month.

They will miss Yorkshire's Championship clash with Gloucestershire in Bristol.

Kent’s Matt Coles, who took four wickets in this match yesterday, has also been called up.
