SUPPORTERS raised about £1,000 for Selby Town by walking to the Northern Counties East League premier division game at Tadcaster Albion.

A dozen fans and officials made the trip on foot to raise funds to upgrade the Robins’ Flaxley Road floodlights.

Secretary Tommy Arkley said: “Anyone travelling along the B1223 on Saturday may have seen around a dozen intrepid walkers resplendent in their high visibility jackets meandering along from Selby Town to Tadcaster Albion.

“A strange sight it must have been, but they were raising funds to help with the maintenance of the floodlights. We struggled to get them up to the required lux level and we need some new lamps, which are around £200 each.”

The group included chairman Ralph Pearse, Arkley and volunteer Shirley Collier. Arkley added: “We are hoping to have raised around £1,000. It is encouraging that there is still a lot of support for the club.”
