Wembley way salute to Arthur Bottom

ARTHUR BOTTOM’S coffin will be adorned with two York City scarves and a 2012 Wembley shirt.

Club chairman Jason McGill personally delivered the items to a friend of the Bottom family ahead of his funeral. The City goalscoring legend died last week aged 82.

McGill’s gesture followed a request by the family for a scarf, after one of Bottom’s former City team-mates, Norman Wilkinson, was buried with one draped on his coffin following his death last year.

Bottom’s special City shirt will also bear his name and number eight on the back.

The details of his funeral have not been made public at the family’s request.
