Kickboxing: Golden global bid for top Wired Performance double act

Wired Performance fighters Mike Clarke, left, and Jamie Mathews, right, have qualified for the World Kickboxing Champion-ships in Montreal later this year – and fellow club member Mitchell Cowton, centre, is hoping to join them in the England team.
York duo Jamie Mathews and Mike Clarke are bound for the World Kickboxing Championships after winning gold at the English Open National Championships.
Mathews was crowned champion in both the middleweight veteran over-42 section and the over-48 category.
Clarke claimed victory in the heavyweight veteran over-35 event, while his efforts in the heavyweight division were rewarded with a silver medal.
Mathews and Clarke will be jetting across the Atlantic with the England squad in October for the World Championships in Montreal, Canada.
Fellow Wired Performance Kickboxing Club member Mitchell Cowton will compete in the English Open National Championship on Sunday, February 26, in the junior under 75kg section. A good performance could cement his place in the same England squad as his club-mates.
Mathews, co-owner of Wired Performance Kickboxing Club, is now running classes at a new venue, Elite in Osbaldwick, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6.30pm to 8pm. These are in conjunction with existing sessions at Fitness First gym.
